Skip to 2:50 for the good part. At 3:43 Cosby puts Theo in his place.? Theo's attitude is that his father should accomodate failure, and Cosby rightly rejects Theo's excuse for poor academic behavior. Theo's emotional appeal is an excuse for laziness. Cosby doesn't want excuses. It's a father's job and it's a critical lesson for those who enable failure. I think Cosby is a closet conservative but he doesn't want to admit it because (unfortunately) it would discredit him in the eyes of his peers.

"You are afraid to try because you are afraid that your brain is going to explode and it's going to ooze out of your ear!" That is the most inspirational thing I have heard in a while, no joke lol?

@ForeverForys I agree completely with your argument. I just found the juxtaposition of Theo giving an emotional speech and his Father quickly rejecting it out of hand as Television Gold. I think you can rationalize any bad concept and that's what Theo was trying? to do. He wanted his Father not to push him because he's his son but in reality his Father would be doing him a disservice even if he wasn't successful and that's why I found Theo's argument about being successful not credible.

.. its because Theo wasn't being genuine .. he was being a BS artist, trying to use theatrics to convince his dad to not push him to his potential because it was hard and Theo wanted to take the easy road. You see, Theo had a good solid, consistent upbringing and family structure so Cliff? can be confident in that Theo isn't so emotionally damaged & insecure that he has to really beg for his parents acceptance, its all an act = another benefit of having a strong/close family unit.

Gates and Jobs went to college and dropped out because they were smart beyond what college was teaching them.? This boy is not willing to try anything.

I wonder what would Cliff's response be if their son was Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, who didn't have? a college degree either.

Theo pours out his heart and? expects his Father to show some understanding and wham bam Clifford(or Heathcliff for Cosby buffs) shuts him down with that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
